With so little storage space in the condo, we are looking to make storage when we can. Rather than just a post that covers a structural pole, we now have bookshelves. On the other side of the half-wall will be our office. That’s downsizing from a full room that served as our office.

We got back from Ireland and there had been progress made on the condo, but it’s not done. We were able to arrange to stay longer in the apartment, thankfully!
Jim and I had planned a trip to Ireland some time ago, thinking that surely, the condo would be done by now. But we leave this Wednesday and there is still a lot to be done. Tony, our contractor, claims that when we return, the condo will be ready for us to move in. I think he may be calling in a team of fairies while we are away.
We went to the paint store, bought small paint samples and began the process of picking paint colors. I can’t believe how many shades of white there are!
The crew have been assembling the Ikea kitchen cabinets last week and this week. You might notice that there is a small skylight in the ceiling. This is a modification of what was there, but is updated and fits the space, as a stove hood is going in above the island.
Extreme Make-over: Condo Edition
Jim and I are leaving for the Third Annual Berkley Beach Vacation tomorrow. Tony, our contractor, texted that “we should have some dramatic changes when we get back”. I’m now envisioning us returning from our vacation, with a big crew smiling and cheering us as we pull up in the limo. No bus, but we are told to close our eyes as we ride the elevator up to our floor, and open the door to our condo. The place is so beautiful that I’m overwhelmed with joy and begin to sob. Someone then hands us a check that will pay the balance of our mortgage. We are grateful and promise that we will have the best dinner parties at our new place and everyone is invited. Okay, so that’s not going to happen. But I am really excited to see what gets done while we are away! Go crew!!!
This week, the crew is installing the hardwood floor, which we are now glad is the option we chose. The initial plan, putting an acid stain on the concrete, would not have been as warm and lovely as this is.
And in case you are wondering, yes, the blue tape is temporary.
This is the master bedroom, now with walls having been finished. Next step is priming. I better start picking out paint!
The old ones had only two settings- on and off. No thermostat either. These new systems are more energy efficient and should do the job much better than the old units.
